Updated homework information for May meeting

Gorgeous, isn't it. You know you want to make one like it. Come to the Southern Ladies Quilt Guild, at 10 a.m., Monday, May 6, 2013 - watch the demo and get help. If you do your homework, you can be just a few cuts and seams away from completing this beautiful quilt. Thanks to Cathy C.

Update on homework for pre-sewing for the May meeting.
(Thanks Cheryl for the updated information)

"Southern Ladies Quilt Guild will Meet Mon May 6th at 10am at Central Church of Christ. We will have a short meeting then on to sewing. Cathy C will be leading us in the Bargello quilt she showed us last month. I spoke with Cathy yesterday about what we need to do ahead of time because some of us got things a little mixed up here is what you need to do & bring with you on Monday:

Do Before You Come:
1: From a Jellyroll select 24 of the 2.5" strips you like.
2:Trim off a small sample of the strips & tape to the cheat sheet you got at the last meeting in the order you want to sew your strips.
3: Sew the long sides of the strips together. You can sew the full strip at one time, less room for mistakes this way. OR you can cut your selected 24 strips on the fold & sew 2 sets keeping the second set in the same order as the first.
4: Mixed Up Yet???? to make this Bargello you need 2 sets of sewn strips they will be called Unit A & Unit B each unit MUST BE IN THE SAME ORDER.
5: It was easier for some of us just to sew each strip the full 40"- 44" strip at one time then fold & cut in half.
6: If you sew all 24 of your strips together & don't understand the cutting part just bring that sewn set with you to the meeting & we will show you how to cut to get both unit sets.
7: Bring your machine, rotary, larger cutting mat & a ruler at least 24" long.
8: bring tape & post it note pad, pencil or pen
9: Basic sewing supplies
10: Clear mind....lol okay I know for someo of us that will be the hard part!"

Southern Ladies Quilt Guild

‘Newly formed Quilt Guild encourages novice and expert quilters alike’

Since the time of Adam and Eve, people have been stitching together things, from then leaves and hides to today’s colorful cottons and silk.

Quilts. The word alone can conjure up memories of grandmothers and soft comfort, but today’s quilts have evolved into something more than simply a warm covering for cold nights. Modern or traditional, machine pieced or hand stitched, applique, paper-piecing, quilting is seeing resurgence in popularity. In today’s world quilts are art, they are clothing, home décor, baby accessories and so much more – as well as more traditional uses as wonderful coverings for a bed.

The members of the Southern Ladies Quilt Guild have officially begun its mission of ‘Promoting the appreciation, enjoyment, and knowledge of quilting as an art form and a craft to its membership and to the general public. The Guild encourages quilting for the benefit of charitable causes and provides opportunities to broaden skills through educational programs, meetings and workshops.’

If you are looking to begin sewing and think quilting is out of reach, think again – even if you have never before slid a piece of thread through the eye of a needle. Simply put, quilters cut apart fabric into smaller pieces and sew it back together in a different design, using the variety of fabric types, colors and patterns available today to suit everyone’s desire. And with a few simple tools to make it easier, a completed quilt top is in your near future. And if you are an experienced quilter and are looking to try something different, whether it is learning a new technique or just wiping the rust off an old skill, Southern Ladies Quilt Guild is here for you.

Meetings will be held at 10 a.m., the first Monday of each month. The location may change later but meetings are currently held at Central Church of Christ on North Main Street, downtown Sparta. Guests are welcome to attend two meetings prior to joining.

TVQA ~ Reminder Please save hangers

In last month's newsletter, a reminder was posted about the TVQA looking for Hangers. So I am posting this reminder:

"Please Save Your Hangers. We had a bit of a time hanging the quilts this year. We need hangers like this one for next year. It does not matter if the clip part is black or clear - but they must have a swivel hook. I will be at the Board Meetings and can collect them at that time. We will also collect them at Assembly Day 2013." Ginger Fondren
